What we collect
The CRISPR Atlas is designed to need as little about you as possible. We do not require an account, and there is nothing to log in to.
- Nothing by default. Browsing the site does not require you to give us any personal information.
- Email address, only if you choose to submit one through the updates form. It is stored to send you occasional updates and for nothing else.
- Message contents, if you write to us through the contact form: the name, email and message you type.
- Questions you type into Ask the Atlas, which are sent to our AI provider to generate an answer, together with the relevant records from our own database. Do not enter personal health information or anything identifying about yourself or another person into that box.
- Standard server logs, including IP address, kept transiently for security and rate limiting.
Cookies and local storage
- Language cookie — remembers the interface language you chose. Set only when you change it.
- Local storage — your theme (dark or light), Guided or Expert view, and your ★ saved pages. These never leave your browser and are not visible to us.
- Advertising cookies — this site is enabled for Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website.
Health information
We do not knowingly collect health information, and we ask you not to send it. If you write to us about a medical situation, please leave out anything that identifies you or another person. We are not a healthcare provider and are not a covered entity under health privacy laws such as HIPAA; correspondence with us does not carry the protections that a conversation with a clinician does.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site: our hosting provider, and the AI provider that generates Ask the Atlas answers. We disclose information if legally required to.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from updates at any time, and you can ask us to delete your email address or a message you sent by writing to us through the contact page. Depending on where you live you may have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honour those requests regardless of where you are.
Children
This site is written to be usable by students and is safe to read, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page changes with it.
