Andrew Anzalone came up with the core idea behind prime editing: what if the guide RNA carried the replacement text as well as the address? He worked it out as a postdoctoral researcher and became first author on the paper that introduced the technique, then joined the company founded to develop it.

Andrew Anzalone conceived and led the development of prime editing in David Liu's laboratory at the Broad Institute, first-authoring the 2019 Nature paper. He subsequently joined Prime Medicine as a scientific leader.
